Common Ductless AC Repairs

Although ductless AC systems are proven to require fewer repairs than traditional AC systems, the odd malfunction here or there is normal for machinery to experience. Many of the issues ductless systems face are similar to traditional units’, but it’s still a good idea to know what common ductless repairs to be on the lookout for. The more you know about your system, the better you’ll be able to determine when you need a professional ductless AC repair.

Big Mountain Heating & Air is always here for you, no matter what the repair is. With our years of experience installing, maintaining and repairing ductless units, the following are some of the most common areas we examine and handle.

Air Handler

The air handler – or blower – in your home may not do any of the actual cooling or heating of the air, but it is still made up of fans and filters that can experience malfunctions. If your fans are not working the air will have a hard time making its way into your home. Additionally, the filters need to be checked and cleaned regularly, since clogs and unexpected issues can also arise that would require a technician’s expertise.

Refrigerant Leak

The ductless air regulation process uses refrigerant. Refrigerant is what allows the system to cool the air in your home, but if refrigerant levels are low your home may not feel as cool as it should. A technician can inspect your system for cracks or leaks that are allowing refrigerant to escape. It’s very important that a certified technician handles this repair because direct exposure to refrigerants can be very dangerous.

While zoned heating and cooling is a huge benefit to reduced energy consumption it can also pose a problem with thermostat malfunctions. There are individual thermostats for each air handler, but these are usually connected to one main thermostat control at the base of the system. You may experience trouble turning on or controlling individual wall units or even the main control source. A technician will be able to identify any problems and reconnect the controls so that they work together flawlessly.

The ductless air handler installed on your wall may accidentally move or become dislodged if not installed correctly or if exposed to impact. Technicians can help reattach the unit to the wall or from the ceiling. This is also important to make sure none of the connecting lines and tubes have been dislodged and will cause a leak.

Condensate Line

The condensate line is a small tube that runs from the indoor air handler to the outdoor unit. Its function is to funnel extra moisture out of the system. If particles of dust or dirt are carried with the water they can become stuck in the tube. Mold or mildew growth can also cause a blockage and stop the moisture from making its way outside. Moisture is the enemy of clean air so this repair could be essential to your health.

The compressor, located in the outdoor housing unit, is responsible for pressurizing the refrigerant to allow it to continue cooling the air in your home. Warm air coming from your blower could indicate that the compressor is unable to do its job for some reason. The compressor is housed next to refrigerant so a licensed technician is the best person to evaluate and repair any problems in this area.

What Our Customers Have To Say

Good Rebates

This is a review for a complete HVAC system replacement from Big Mountain. I started at the SMUD website looking for the best rebate program and found a list of contractors there. I vetted out companies that had a lower number of completed jobs per the SMUD rebate program data.

Very Professional

Had my A/C go out yesterday, called Big Mountain today and they had a serviceman in my area of Lincoln, he was here within a half hour and fix my unit in a very professional manner, and the cost was reasonable. I was very impressed with the company and the serviceman.

I had a appointment with them between 1-3 and one of their staff members called me and kept me updated when they will arrive which was nice. Steve arrived on time and was really nice for explaining what could the cause be. My ac fan was working but cool air wasn’t coming out.
